2006 Los Angeles Magazine Lanai recognized as one of sixty best schools in Los Angeles Magazine's "The School Issue." 2006 British Petroleum A+ for Energy Grant $10,000 grant to expand science and garden programs in the area of utilizing alternate power (solar energy.) Authored by the FOLB Grant Seeking Committee. 2006 Lowe's Grant $4,900 to expand the Garden Program. 2006 31st District PTSA Awards Grand Award for Safety, Honorable Mention for Newsletter (Lanai Leader), Honorable Mention for Unit of the Year, and several Membership Awards including 104% PTA membership. 2006 District 1 Campus Beautiful First-Place Grand Prize. This is the fifth consecutive year that Lanai Road has been honored with a Campus Beautiful award! 2006 Music Center Bravo Award Finalist The Bravo Award was established by the Music Center Education Division to recognize teachers and schools for creativity, innovation and excellence in arts education. 2006 Encino Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Awards Kristen Bryan, Nominee 2006 California Academic Performance Index (API) 932 school-wide score. 2006 Los Angeles Office of Community Beautification $9647 matching grant for our "Habitats for Learning" project, designed by the Lanai Garden Program, which will transform three weed-filled areas of campus into living botanical museums and learning areas filled with drought-tolerant and native California plants. Authored by the FOLB Grant Seeking Committee. 2006 Best Buy Technology Grant $2500 Best Buy gift card awarded to second grade teacher Robert Chesler's classroom for demonstrating a program that uses interactive technology to make learning fun for students. Mr. Chesler's students are motivated to learn by working on the classroom's own Website (www.room17express.org), conducting research on the Internet, incorporating their digital photos into projects, importing graphics, preparing PowerPoint presentations and reinforcing language arts and math skills through the use of interactive games. 2005 Intel & Scholastic Schools of Distinction in recognition of efforts to create a positive learning environment for all children. 2005 Encino Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Awards Monica Fulford, Nominee 2005 District 1 Campus Beautiful First-Place Grand Prize 2005 31st District PTSA Awards Outstanding Achievement for Safety, Honorable Mention for Newsletter (Lanai Leader), Honorable Mention for Directory (Website), Honorable Mention for Unit of the Year and several Membership Awards. 2005 Commendation from the City of Los Angeles On February 4, 2005 Lanai Road School, its administration, staff, teachers, students, parents and community were honored by Councilman Jack Weiss at City Hall with a commendation recognizing Lanai's extraordinary accomplishments in academic achievement and parent and community involvement. Accepting the award on Lanai's behalf were Principal Latham, Asst. Principal McIntire, Teacher Jennifer Taylor and her Fifth Grade Class. |
2004 California Distinguished School Award Awarded by the California Department of Education. 2004 California Academic Performance Index (API) 860 school-wide score; 43-point gain in the last year; 349-point gain over last four years. Largest gain of any Elementary School in the district. 2004 Title One National Academic Achievement Award 2004 Highest Number of Annual Volunteer Hours in the District 105,000 hours! 2004 Most Improved LAUSD School Title One and API. 2004 Music Center Bravo Award Nominee The Bravo Award was established by the Music Center Education Division to recognize teachers and schools for creativity, innovation and excellence in arts education. Grant authored by Principal Latham-Wilson and teacher Jennifer Taylor. 2004 Wonder of Reading Literacy Grant $5,000 grant to purchase new books for our library. The books (fiction, nonfiction and reference) will be integrated and complement Lanai's existing Garden project. Authored by the FOLB Grant Seeking Committee. 2004 District One Outstanding Student Attendance Award - For improved student attendance and achieving 96% student attendance for the 2003/2004 school year. 2004 British Petroleum A+ for Energy Grant $10,000 grant to be used to purchase and install a solar powered hot water heater and sink located near the planting beds at the back of school. Fourth graders will be participating in standards based activities that will explain the process, technology and use of the sun's energy for heating homes and water. Authored by the FOLB Grant Seeking Committee. 2004 Anne & Kirk Douglas Playground Award Approximately $25,000 matching grant for secondary (grades 3-5) playground equipment project. 2004 Encino Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Award to Ingrid Johnson $1,000 in gifts and prizes, selected from among 16 other area schools. This is the second consecutive year that a Lanai Road teacher has garnered this award. 2004 District 1 Campus Beautiful First-Place Grand Prize 2004 31st District PTSA Award Best Program Directory 2004 Getty House Foundation Above and Beyond School Award Finalist for excellence in community involvement. 2004 "Beyond the Bell" Youth Services Dance Team Third Place Award for District C. 2004 Colonial Williamsburg Social Studies, Theatre Arts Teacher Training Academy Grant for teacher training in Williamsburg, Virginia. Authored by teachers Mrs. Taylor & Ms. Yuen. 2004 Fedco Field Trip Grant $800 for kindergarten field trips to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and to purchase additional materials to facilitate instruction on marine life. Grant authored by the FOLB Grant Seeking Committee. 2004 California State Assembly Business-Education Partnership Award Certificate of Recognition. 2004 Valley of the Stars Business Education Partnership Award from the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, $100 Runner-Up Award. 2004 LA Urban School Science Project Grant $4,000 for teacher training at the California Science Center for science instruction. |
2003 Arts Prototype School Proposal and Award $17,000 for a development program for teachers to deliver a comprehensive standards based arts program, infuse art into the curriculum, bring students to the wider art community and bring the art community to Lanai. 2003 School for Advanced Studies Proposal and Award $5,000 to plan and execute a special program to identify and encourage the development of gifted and high achieving students. 2003 Los Angeles Educational Partnership Community Award and $10,000 Grant awarded to one school each year which demonstrates innovation and success in community and family involvement. 2000-2003 Healthy Start Planning Grant $100,000 to fund Family Center Director and School Nurse. 2000 Anne and Kirk Douglas Playground Award Matching grant of $25,000.00 for primary (grades 1-2) playground structure. 2000 Iowa Test Survey Testing Research Project Used Lanai Road students to set testing norms. We used results to help determine student progress and needs prior to the official state test administration. $5,000 award. 2000 31st District PTSA Awards Membership Campaign 2000 DWP Neighborhood Matching Grant $5,000 for landscaping.
